Daughter Survives Gunshot to the Head from Mom, Mother Dies

NEW HEBRON, Miss.–The murder suicide attempt in Simpson County Monday night where a mom shot her grown daughter, then herself, may have been over a child custody argument. That’s what Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis told media after 21-year-old Georgina Boykin was flown to UMMC in Jackson with a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the New Hebron community, at the family’s home.

The sheriff said the mom, 40-year-old Siminia Boykin, shot her daughter, then shot herself. She died at the scene and the bodies were both found by the father and husband, James Frank Boyd.

He told deputies that it may have been over an argument and court battle over who would have custody of Georgina Boykin’s baby.

Siminia Boykin’s body was taken to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
