Deputies Convince Suicidal Man to Live

THREE RIVERS, Miss. – Upset over losing his job and disappointing his family, a Three Rivers man threatened to take his own life Wednesday.

Jackson County deputies said they found the 22-year-old sitting on the front porch of his home with a shotgun in his mouth and an empty vodka bottle nearby.

According to a department news release, deputies told the man several times that, “This is a permanent solution for a temporary problem; and you don’t want to do this.”  After about 20 minutes of talking, they said he finally started to cry with the shotgun resting on his solder.  One deputy was then able to snatch the weapon away from the man, who was taken to the hospital.  “We are proud of our officers for using restraint and compassion while saving this man’s life,” said Sheriff Charles Britt.
