‘Don’t Believe in a God?’: Billboard on the Mississippi Coast

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – “Don’t believe in a god? You’re not alone.” It’s what a billboard reads in Pascagoula, which may be hard to not notice in the Bible belt. The message was funded by the Coalition for Reason in order to reach out to atheists, agnostics, and humanists in the South. The group also has similar messages posted on billboards in Florida and Alabama.

“The message we are trying to send with the billboard is trying let people out there know — they are not alone. Down here in the south is very religious, and some people may not feel comfortable with their views on religion and they might hide it because they don’t want to be an outcast.” Said Corey Warner is spokesperson for the Gulf Coast Collation of Reason.

“We are not trying to dog anyone or put anyone down, we are just trying to make everyone feel inclusive and give people a place to go.”

Warner says so far they have not gotten any negative feedback. Instead they have gotten a lot of positive feedback.
