Drowning in the Pearl River: Teenager Drowns in Leake County at a Familiar Spot

LEAKE COUNTY, Miss.–A drowning Monday afternoon in Leake County is a reminder that the water is a dangerous place, especially in the summer. It’s a also a reminder for several families who have lost loved ones at the same spot.

A 14-year-old from Attala County is the victim this time. Sheriff Greg Waggoner was not ready to release the boy’s name Monday, but he did tell media that the victim is from Attala County.\

The drowning happened near the Pearl River bridge on Hwy. 35, near Carthage.

A group of teenagers was swimming and the victim went under. Another person tried to save him. That same scenario has played out before, several times, in the same area.
