Drowning victim identified in Monroe County

The body of a missing boater has been found and identified in Monroe County.

Lisa Merrit, 53 of Amory went missing after she jumped into the waters of the Aberdeen Lock and Dam Tuesday and did not resurface.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said Merrit’s body was pulled from the water Wednesday morning.

“She jumped in, but didn’t come back up, according to the reports from her family,” said Cantrell. “And all signs indicate to drowning.”

An autopsy will not be performed.

The woman was wearing a life vest. There’s no word as to why she didn’t resurface.
