Drugs Lead to Two People Being Shot; Three People Arrested, One on the Loose

PHOTO: Wanted: Kelcey Watson

NATCHEZ, Miss.–Drugs are what likely led to a double shooting in Adams County Sunday night. A man and a woman were both found inside a wrecked car, and three people were arrested.

About 8:20 p.m. Sunday, deputies found the car in a ditch, said Courtney Taylor, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department.  Clifford Barnes, 30, and Kimberly Singleton, 33, were inside. Barnes seemed unconscious, not breathing, and had several bloody spots on his shirt, and Singleton appeared to have been shot in the back.

Deputies called for investigators and back up and stayed with Singleton until the ambulance arrived, said a news release from the sheriff’s department.

Singleton is still in the hospital. Barnes died.

Darryl Keith Hurts, 17, Chadrich Watson 22, and Darnell Stevenson 17 were arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder with $750,000 bond each. All three are in the Adams County Jail. There is a warrant for Kelcey Watson, 19.

“As the investigation continues, we will release more information,” said Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield.
