Earthquakes in Mississippi: Two Quakes Confirmed in Madison County

CANTON, Miss.–Yes, those were earthquakes you felt if you live in Madison County. Two quakes were confirmed Saturday evening by the U.S. Geological Survey. The strongest was a magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale.

The quakes were strong enough to be felt, but not strong enough to do any damage. Twitter was lit up with Tweets from people who either felt the quake or who were being Tweeted by people who felt it.

The first quake was the stronger of at least two and was centered just under I-55, in front of the Nissan plant in Canton. It was a 3.2.

The second, which happened just a few minutes later, was just west of I-55, and was a 3.0.
