Edamame pulled from stores after Listeria scare

The products were packaged by AFC Franchisees and sold as “Edamame – Soybeans in Pods”. The packed Edamame was sold at designated retail sushi counters within grocery stores, cafeterias, and corporate dining centers in 33 states, including Mississippi.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or older adults, pregnant women, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths and fetal infection among pregnant women.

If you’re concerned about whether the Edamame you purchased is subject to this recall, ask about it at your store. Don’t eat it, but return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
