Election: Choctaw Tribal Chief Election Has Anderson, Former Chief Denson in Runoff

CHOCTAW, Miss.–The Miss. Band of Choctaw Indians may not have a new tribal chief just yet. It appears that current Chief Phyliss J. Anderson may be headed to a runoff with former chief Beasley Denson.

Unofficial numbers from Tuesday’s election had Anderson well ahead of Denson, with 1,371 votes, or 40 percent. But, she did not get a majority of the votes.

Denson had 1,000 votes, or 29 percent.

There were others in the race, but Anderson and Denson were the front runners.

The results will likely be certified Wednesday.
