Explosion and Fire in Newton County, One Dead and It May Have Been a Meth Lab

NEWTON COUNTY, Miss.–An explosion and fire in the Lawrence community of Newton County may have been related to a meth lab. It happened Sunday afternoon about two and an 18-year-old trapped inside, died.

His body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

WTOK TV reported that neighbors heard an explosion about 2 p.m. and saw a fireball. It took over 60 firefighters to help put it out.

The TV station reported that the fire may have been related to a meth lab. The coroner did not give out the name of the victim.

Of those 60 or so firefighters on scene, two had to be treated for exposure to poison.
