Father charged in hot car death released from jail

GRENADA, Miss. – Joshua Blunt, a man charged with murder after leaving his 8-month-old child in a hot car, has been released from jail.

Blunt appeared in court Tuesday and was released on his own recognizance.

His attorney, Carlos Morre, asked for Blunt’s charge to be reduced from second degree murder to culpable negligence. The judge denied the request.

His attorney is also claiming that Blunt’s arrest was racially motivated.

Blunt says that he thought he had dropped his child off at her grandparents house before going to work, but he had not, and Shania Rihanna Caradine was left in the car for several hours before a passerby noticed her.
