A father has been charged following last night’s Amber Alert.

After 2-year-old Genesis McCord, of Pascagoula, had been missing for several hours last night, the MBI stated that her father, Joe Qunicy McCord had turned himself in to the Mobile Police Department, and Genesis was found safe with another family member.

The alert was sent out around 7:00 p.m. after Genesis was taken from a local apartment around 5:15 p.m. When officers with the Pascagoula PD arrived at the Bandywood Apartments on Orchard Road, they found Genesis’ mother, 33-year-old Brittany McCord, dead from a gunshot wound.

Joe McCord became the primary suspect in the investigation, and he was charged with the murder of his estranged wife and extradited back to Mississippi from Mobile.

Reports state that Joe has also been charged with felony child abuse after pistol-whipping his 13-year-old stepson before leaving the state with Genesis.

Officials with the Pascagoula PD stated that additional charges may be filed against Joe in the case, and he is currently being held in the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.
