Filling Up With Taxpayer Money Leads to Arrest of School Official

SHAW, Miss.–Filling up your own personal car with your taxpayer-funded, school account is illegal if you work for the school district. State Auditor Stacey Pickering said Tuesday that Willie Alexander was doing that while he was transportation director for the Shaw School District.

Alexander was arrested this week and charged with embezzlement after an indictment by the grand jury.

Pickering also ordered Alexander to pay back $4,142.82.

Pickering said the investigation also showed Alexander bought groceries with the school district’s fuel card.

“The evidence shows that items such as beer, cigarettes, and other items were purchased with taxpayer money,” said Pickering. “My office will continue to diligently pursue this case and any others that misappropriate taxpayer money.”

Alexander was fired from his position with the Shaw School District in 2013.
