Finally Awake: State Sen. Carmichael Emerges From Unconsciousness

JACKSON, Miss.–A fall March 31 in his apartment that resulted from an illness put state Sen. Videt Carmichael in intensive care for two weeks. Friday he woke up, having been unconscious since hitting his head.

Carmichael, who serves the Lauderdale County area, was also on a ventilator, his son told TV station WTOK in Meridian.

He has been taken off that ventilator and doctors are working to help his recovery. Carmichael, a Republican, missed the end of the 2014 legislative session.
