Fire Kills Young Child in Collinsville, Mother, Two Other Kids in the Hospital

COLLINSVILLE, Miss.–A fire can take a mobile home in as little as four minutes. Wednesday, a fire in Collinsville, in Lauderdale County, took not only a family’s trailer, but the life of the youngest child who lived there.

The fire started around 7 p.m. and two people driving by stopped and got out to help. WTOK reports they ran to the trailer and to the woman, who was able to hand two children over before she passed out. She was still inside.

Two other people stopped to help. They were able to help get the mom and another child out of the home.

The mother was flown to Jackson for treatment of smoke inhalation. The youngest child died, said Coroner Clayton Cobbler, and the other two kids went to the hospital.

Lauderdale County authorities were looking into how the fire got started.
