OXFORD, Miss. – A former employee for the Lafayette County District Attorney’s office has been arrested on a charge of embezzling tax dollars.
According to the State Auditor’s office, Heather Peters, 45, took $1,800 from the DA’s Bad Check Unit, which she managed until December of 2013. She is also accused of charging another $2,000 on a credit card belonging to the DA’s office.
Peters, who was arrested Wednesday following a yearlong investigation, has been told to repay nearly $8,000, which includes the amount taken plus investigative cost.
