Former Eupora Mayor Becomes 11th Person to Run for Nunnelee’s Congressional Seat

EUPORA, Miss.–Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District race now has 11 people who want to try to fill the seat left vacant when Cong. Alan Nunnelee died earlier this year. Former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross announced his candidacy Wednesday.

The election is May 12 and March 27 is the last day to qualify for the special election, so there could potentially be even more candidates.

Ross is a former judge and assistant district attorney.

Also running for the seat are Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert, state Sen. Nancy Collins, Columbus businessman Boyce Adams, Oxford attorney Daniel Sparks, DA Trent Kelly of Saltillo, attorney Greg Pirkle of Tupelo, former Jackson city councilman and attorney Quentin Whitwell, now of Oxford, Dr. Starner Jones of Pontotoc, and Danny Bedwell, a Columbus businessman.

If there is a runoff, it will be June 2.
