Former sheriff released from court supervision

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss.- After serving 6 months of house arrest and two years under post-release supervision former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd is free.

He plead guilty in June of 2012 to federal charges of obstructing justice after a man was accused of stealing a patrol car.

Byrd came clean about kicking the man in the groin twice while he was handcuffed. He also ordered deputies to destroy evidence. He plead guilty to the state for intimidating a witness.

He also admitted to asking  a deputy to lie to a grand jury after that deputy had been hit by a bullet at a narcotics task force office.
