Four Day Meth Binge Ends With Miss. Man Climbing Highway Sign

PEARL, Miss.–In a poster child moment for “Just say no to drugs” advocates, a man was taken into custody in Pearl Wednesday after quite the morning.

A mid-20’s man spent a couple of hours on top of a highway 49 sign and afterward confessed to police he had been awake for four days straight during a meth beige according to WAPT.

News Mississippi started receiving calls and tweets early Wednesday of a man who listeners thought was threatening to jump.

“He was sitting on one of the over traffic signs that has all the traffic directions on it,” said motorist Bradley Barnes.

The 25-year-old Brandon Merritt of Columbia had apparently gotten his car stuck on the side of the I-20 near Highway 49 and decided he needed to climb up the sign to avoid getting arrested.

Traffic was backed up for about two hours while firemen and rescue personnel got him off the sign with a bucket truck.

According to the WAPT report, he told police he eluded Jackson Police in his car the night before because they thought he had drugs but a spokesman told them that wasn’t the case.

The investigation into the whole ordeal is still ongoing.

Merritt is going through a mental evaluation.
