Four dead in Pearl River County crash

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Pearl River County that left four people dead over the weekend.

The crash occurred on Saturday on Highway 53 near Savannah Millard Road around 12:30 a.m., when according to the MHP, it appears that a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Sonic.

The driver and left rear passenger (driver’s side) of the Sonic and the driver of the Silverado were transported to Forrest General Hospital with serious injuries. Four occupants of the Sonic were pronounced dead on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The MHP has confirmed the names of those who were involved in the crash. Those killed in the Sonic were 46-year-old Phenicia Chambers, 11-year-old Sa’Mya Magee, 11-year-old Me’Ori Sanjaya Le’Gier, and 5-year-old Bryson Poole. 

The driver of the Sonic, 30-year-old Julisha Poole, was taken to a local hospital. The news release states that the driver and Chambers were the only ones wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the Silverado, 39-year-old Tara Cox was injured and taken to the hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
