JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson Prep has cancelled classes for this Friday and will postpone its game against Copiah Academy to allow students to say their final goodbyes to Walker Wilbanks.
Wilbanks, 17, collapsed during a football game last week and died Monday at a Jackson hospital. His funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Jackson. “We will maintain a normal bell schedule for Wednesday and Thursday of this week; but we will be closed for school this Friday, August 29, to allow our students, faculty and staff to attend Walker’s service,” Jackson Prep’s Head of School Jason Walton said in a Tuesday letter to staff. “We have also made the determination that we will postpone both Thursday’s junior high football game and Friday’s varsity game.”
Thursday’s game has not been rescheduled. Jackson Prep and Copiah Academy will play Saturday; but the time was not immediately announced.
