Garden Mama: Why It’s Wise to Start Taking Care of That Lawn in January

JACKSON, Miss.–Your yard is actually one of the most valuable parts of your property. It breathes and makes the environment around where you live healthier, and that’s one reason to go ahead and start to make sure it has a good, healthy year.

That’s advice from Nellie Neal, the Garden Mama.

“If you have weeds that come up in about six to eight weeks from now, and then are a problem for you going into summer, this is the time for the pre-emerge products,” she said.

She said a yard provides an important barrier.

“If I didn’t have that lawn between me and the busy street I live on there would be even more dust and dirt coming in my house and frankly, there are more plants in one square foot of lawn than most people have all over their whole property, even if they have acres.”

She said a good idea is to get up with your local yard care people to get the right kind of care info for your area.
