Gov. Bryant Hints at Joining Louisiana Gov., Calling for an End to Common Core

JACKSON, Miss. –Gov. Phil Bryant told reporters Thursday that he thought Common Core was a “failed program” and that governors were beginning to realize that states could do a better job at creating education standards. He also suggested that further discussion on the program can be expected in Mississippi’s next legislative session.

Bryant issued an executive order last year saying Common Core could stay, as long as the state accepted no federal money for its implementation.

This comes days after Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal made the announcement that he wants to give common core the boot, even though the Louisiana education leaders have shown that they have no intention of getting rid of the standards.
