Governor Phil Bryant has declared October Second through the Sixth as Manufacturing Week. The proclamation is announced every year and is done in an effort to raise awareness about manufacturing and the available opportunities in the growing sector of the economy.

“What we try to do during that week is to work with our manufacturing partners and showcase to communities across the state the benefits of manufacturing and what they bring to the state,” said Jay Moon, President, and CEO of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association.

Moon said that Manufacturing accounts for 143,000 direct jobs in the state and then another 285,000 additional jobs that work in relation to manufacturing within the state.

“It’s a huge job generator that has a huge impact on the state and manufacturing is alive and well in Mississippi.”

Moon said that there is a broad range of manufacturing to celebrate within the state.

“We have an extremely diverse set of manufacturers, so we are talking about companies that manufacture food products all the way to manufacturing the most sophisticated Navy warships on the planet which is done down in Pascagoula with Ingalls Shipyard,” said Moon.

Mississippi currently ranks ninth in the nation for manufacturing employment and manufacturing constitutes over 14 percent of the overall state product of Mississippi.

“This proclamation recognizes the outstanding manufacturing companies we have in Mississippi,” said Jay Moon, President, and CEO of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association. “Companies in Mississippi manufacture world-class products that successfully compete in today’s global markets. They invest millions in our state and create thousands of well-paying jobs with good benefits for their employees.”
