Governor Phil Bryant has asked State Auditor Shad White to conduct an audit. The audit covers child-based programs within state departments and agencies that receive state or federal funds. Bryant says this will be done to protect the children’s health, their safety, and their education.

“Last year, nearly $4 billion was spent on these programs in Mississippi with poor outcomes continuing to occur in some instances,” said Governor Bryant.

Bryant added that the audit will be delivered by January 1, 2020, and will help shape future funding decisions for the state legislature.

“I, along with the staff of the auditor’s office, stand ready to help shed light on better ways of helping Mississippi’s most vulnerable children,” said Auditor Shad White. “I want to thank Gov. and Mrs. Bryant for their leadership in making life better for Mississippi’s children. This initiative is critical to our future as a state.”
