JACKSON, MISS– Governor Phil Bryant has said that sexual discrimination will not be tolerated within state agencies.
Gov. Bryant spoke with The Clarion-Ledger on Wednesday regarding cases within The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Office of Homeland Security.
“I will not tolerate any improper behavior among personnel within executive agencies related to sexual harassment,” said Bryant. “I have a zero tolerance for this behavior.”
MBN employee Mary Katherine Sullivan filed a federal lawsuit against the agency and deputy director Mike Perkins. A settlement was reached, with undisclosed terms. Shortly thereafter, Perkins retired.
Earlier in August, Everett “Rusty” Barnes retired from his position of director of the state Office of Homeland Security, after a the settlement of a federal lawsuit by Penny Nichols Corn, who claimed she was passed up for a position and was told it was because as a woman, she would not receive respect from men in the office.
