Guilty Again: Former MSU Prof. Convicted in Wife’s Shotgun Killing

MONROE COUNTY, Miss.–It was a shotgun blast that killed 68-year-old Joyce Parvin seven years ago. Her husband, former Miss. State professor David Parvin, said he pulled the trigger, but that it was a terrible accident. A Monroe County jury disagreed and found him guilty of murder.

Parvin will serve life without parole. He’s 75.

The jury reached the guilty verdict Monday night, but it was not the first time Parvin had been convicted.

This was Parvin’s second trial in the matter. An appellate court overturned his first conviction.

Parvin told the judge after the verdict was read that he believed the prosecution in “no way” proved murder and that it was indeed a “terrible accident”. Parvin’s attorney said he will appeal the verdict.

The murder happened in the couple’s Aberdeen home.
