NEW ORLEANS, La.–Evidence was purposefully covered up in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill that killed 11, including four Mississippians. That is the expected plea from the company Haliburton, according to the U.S. Dept. of Justice.
Haliburton was the cement contractor for the oil rig. With the guilty plea, the corporation will admit that it hid a computer simulation that showed an alternate design that might have prevented the disaster, which not only cost lives, but dumped millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf.
That spill adversely affected the economies of coastal states, including Mississippi. Those states have already gotten billions from BP in settlement money and court action continues.
Haliburton is expected to pay a maximum fine, the dollar amount which has not yet been disclosed.
