Hattiesburg Mayor Asks for Contempt of Court Ruling to be Lifted

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree has requested a circuit court judge to drop the contempt of court charges against him. A motion was filed on Tuesday in Forrest County Circuit Court by way of his attorney, Ottowa Carter Jr.

The Hattiesburg American reports that the Mayor asked the court to issue and order that:

Schedules a hearing within five days of the filing to address the motion’s requests;

“Rescinds” the contempt finding;

Confirms Anthony Parker as police chief;

Requires plaintiffs, Councilmen Kim Bradley and Carter Carroll, to pay court costs and attorney fees.

He also requested that Crystal Springs Police Chief Anthony Parker, a former Southern Miss football player, be appointed to Chief of Police in Hattiesburg.
