Heat index climbing across Mississippi

This week across Mississippi the heat index is reaching 100-110 and it’s important to know how to stay safe.

Thomas Winesett, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Jackson, said tomorrow the heat index will reach 100-105 with a 50-60 percent chance of rain. He said if your part of the state gets rain, it will help the heat index decrease. On Wednesday the heat index will decrease to around 100, while on Thursday it will go back up to around 105, especially in Western portions of the state. This weekend the heat index will range from 105-110.

“We just want to encourage everybody to take it easy if you’re outside and stay hydrated,” said Winesett. “If you’re doing strenuous outside activity, make sure to take frequent breaks and of course, don’t leave your pets or children in cars.”
