Heroes Hurry to Rescue

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. – A woman and her young granddaughter are alive today after a couple of Olive Branch police officers jumped into a lake and saved them.

Investigators said they ended up in the frigid water late Thursday night after the woman somehow lost control of her van.  Officers William Brock and Julia Humble arrived and quickly jumped in to save the two.  Police Chief Don Gammage told WMC-TV in Memphis that the officers were heroes.  “They didn’t think.  They reacted and they reacted the right way,” he said.  “And that led to two lives being saved.”

The woman and the 7-year-old girl were taken to hospitals to be checked out.  Both are expected to be okay.
