CLINTON, Miss. – The citizens of Clinton are being terrorized by career criminals according to the city’s Mayor, Phil Fisher.
“I am calling on the Hinds County District Attorney and Circuit Court Judges to follow state statue in regards to habitual offender status,” said Fisher at a Wednesday press conference. “It is past time to stop sweetheart plea deals and lock up these career criminals.”
Fisher said at least four men with previous arrests and convictions, Cedric Williams, Woodrez Davis, Michael Millender and Mathew Eiken, have had their habitual offender statuses rescinded in plea deals, allowing them to remain free. The men, Fisher said are believe to be connected to several crimes in Clinton over the past few months.
“Until such time as our judicial system takes these seriously and get these career habitual criminals off the streets, I really don’t know what our other options are,” said Fisher.
Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith walked into the press conference unannounced and said Fisher had misled the public. “These are four people that he’s not accurately giving you information on.” Smith maintained that the press conference was no more than a political attack.
