Highway Dedication for Two Fallen MDOT Workers

LUMBERTON, Miss.–A highway dedication for two fallen MDOT workers will take place Tuesday in Lamar County.

Both Tyler R. Kilsby and Leon Sims were killed in January 2010 while they were placing sand on an icy section of Mississippi Highway 11 north of Lumberton when they were hit by a vehicle.

“We are honored to dedicate this section of Highway 11 in Lamar County as the ‘Tyler R. Kilsby and Leon Sims Memorial Highway’ so that all who travel this area will remember two of MDOT’s finest who, in doing a job they loved, gave their lives to keep us safe,” said Commissioner King.

MDOT will build and maintain appropriate signs on the dedicated part of Hwy. 11 in memory of both men.

“We ask that you please be aware and cautious as you travel through Mississippi work zones.  Watching out for our men and women will make their jobs safer, roadways safer and will save lives,” urged King.
