Independence Day Travel and Activities: Gas and Weather

JACKSON, Miss.–Whether you’re headed to the in-laws, your memaw’s house or anywhere else in or out of state for Independence Day, gas is expensive. But, the state’s average is down from where it was a couple of weeks ago and down a couple of cents from Wednesday.

The state average is $3.22 per gallon, according to gasbuddy.com. The national average was at $3.49, where it has been since the beginning of the week.

Horn Lake has the cheapest gas in state today, with three stations at $3.04.

The most expensive gas was at stations in opposite parts of the state. You can pay $3.59 at stations in both Ocean Springs and Booneville.

As far as rain wetting your fireworks display, it could happen. There was a 40 percent chance of storms north and east and a 30 percent chance everywhere else. And, the humidity that had left for the first part of the week is back in force.

But, you’ll still be enjoying highs just below the 90 degree mark, some five to seven degrees below average for this time of year, and that can make a lot of difference.
