A North Mississippi inmate will face additional charges after he attacked a correctional officer earlier this week.

On Sunday, 22-year-old Johntavius Trice was being let out of his cell inside of the Lee County Adult Detention Center to eat when he approached an officer and tried to stab him in the face with a homemade shank. Another officer was able to quickly step in a subdue Trice by using a taser.

Despite the attack, the officer is expected to make a full recovery.

Trice was charged with one count of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, and he is originally behind bars on a robbery charge.

This is the second time Trice has attacked an officer. The first time was when he was being booked on the robbery charge in October.

His bond was set at $50,000 for the most recent attack.
