Jackson girl helps deliver baby brother

When Jackson OBGYN Dr. Walter Wolfe noticed a 12-year-old anxiously awaiting the birth of her baby brother from the corner of her mom’s delivery room, Wolfe and the girl’s mother decided to give young Jacee Carraway a more hands-on experience.

This was Dede Carraway’s third and planned-to-be final child, and she wanted her daughter to share in the childbirth experience with her, but she wasn’t quite sure how.

“When Dr. Wolfe said “why don’t we just suit her up and let her deliver him,” said DeDe. “I said he can’t be serious.”

But he was.

“He said her hands wouldn’t go anywhere, and she meant business. She suited up and she did it,” said DeDe.

When Dr. Wolfe asked Jacee to help with the delivery. Not only did she agree, but she was able to assist and cut his umbilical cord.

“She wanted to be a veterinarian,” said Dede. “Now she keeps saying how she wants to deliver more babies.”

“I was nervous that I was going to mess up, or tear her or something,” said Jacee. “But it was the best day of my life.”
