JACKSON, Miss.- The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Jackson was robbed early Monday morning.

The Salvation Army has video surveillance of a man in a 2005 or 2006 burgundy minivan stealing donations that had been left outside for when they opened.

Spokesperson Joe Miceli said the person backed his vehicle up to the building, then put a trash bag over the surveillance camera.

“What he was not aware of, we had five other cameras.” Miceli said.

The man drove up around 4:35 Monday morning, Miceli said. The gates open automatically so people can drop off donations.

“Took a dresser, boxes and I guess whatever he needed to fill the van,” Miceli said.

“It’s very very disheartening to not only me, but to the Salvation Army because we have so many individuals in the community that make these donations to enable us to continue on with our programs.” Miceli said, “The donations are how we survive.”

The Salvation Army just put a plea out a few weeks ago asking for more clothing and furniture. They are still in need of donations.

Miceli said, “We thank the community for what they do for us and the support that they give us in enabling us to be able to help community members out there in need.”

Jackson police department is investigating.
