Judge blocks law to keep taxpayer funds from Planned Parenthood

JACKSON, MISS– A federal judge has blocked a law that would keep Mississippi taxpayer dollars from going to abortion services. Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit against the law in June.

Governor Phil Bryant released a statement regarding this ruling on Facebook:

Planned Parenthood Southeast operates the state’s only Planned Parenthood clinic in Mississippi, which is located in Hattiesburg. That clinic does not perform abortions.

The original law, signed by Governor Bryant in May, aimed to “prohibit the Division of Medicaid from authorizing payment of part or all of the costs of care and services rendered by any entity that performs non-therapeutic abortions, maintains or operates a facility where non-therapeutic are performed or is affiliated with such an entity; and for related purposes.”
