Keeping Your Kids Safe: Prentiss County Man Gets Thirty Years in the Pen for Child Fondling

PRENTISS COUNTY, MISS— Three counts of sexual battery and two counts of child fondling are why Mikeal James Pope of Prentiss County is going to prison.

Pope will serve thirty years, day for day, for the crimes. Each child involved was below the age of 14. He was sentenced by Judge Jim Pounds.

District Attorney John Weddle commented on the case by saying “Although we cannot undo the horrific acts committed by Mr. Pope, we can do our best to seek justice and closure for some of the victims. Because of the courage of the children that came forward, Mr. Pope is in prison and will not be eligible for release until the entire 30 year sentence is served.”

Pope plead guilty to the crimes.
