Keeping Your Kids Safe: Statutory Rape Charge When Girl is Found in Truck

JONES COUNTY, Miss.–A statutory rape charge has been filed against Dakota Cook, 18, of Jones County, after deputies say they found a 13-year-old girl with him in his truck when she was supposed to be at home.

The girl was examined at a local hospital and that’s when her parents decided to file charges.

According to a news release from the Jones County Sheriff’s Dept., the girl was at home Saturday night and asked her granddad if she could go to the store down the road. He said no and when he went to her room to check on her a little while later, she was gone.

Deputies were called and they went to the store and spotted Cook’s truck. They found both teenagers. The girl’s dad also came to the store.

At first Cook was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. But after a visit to the hospital where doctors examined the girl for rape, the statutory rape charge was filed.
