MAGEE, Miss.- A mother and her son have been found safe after being held at gunpoint and kidnapped.
Simpson County Sheriff’s Department said Friday evening they received a report that 17-year-old Erica Walters and her two-year-old son, Zane Walters were abducted at gunpoint in Magee, MS.
Saturday night a brief Amber Alert was issued at 10:50 p.m. for Erica and Zane Walters after police received word they were spotted near the Louisiana state line. Twenty minutes later, the alert was canceled.
Louisiana State Police pulled over the black 2014 Chevrolet Impala the victims were taken in. Dakota Thornton, 17, was then taken into custody and the victims were found safe and unharmed inside the vehicle.
Thornton is awaiting extradition to Simpson County, MS, where he will be charged with two counts of kidnapping.
