KiOR Can’t Fuel Jobs, Prepares to Close

COLUMBUS, Miss. — Biofuel maker KiOR is laying off workers at its Columbus plant as it prepares to shutdown the refinery.

The Texas based company confirmed Wednesday that nearly 20 employees were let go this week and it said more of their coworkers will be without jobs over the next two months. As of now 55 people are still at the plant, which makes oil from wood chips.

KiOR said in May it would close the $225 million plant because it was not producing the amount of oil it was built to make.
