Latest From Monday’s Storms: 7 Confirmed Tornadoes, Clean Up and Class In Session

JACKSON, MISS– The National Weather Service confirms 7 tornadoes hit the Magnolia State on Monday. 

The tornadoes were all in Central and South Mississippi, with severe weather damage reported in 20 counties.

Winston, Walthall, Leake, Smith, and Jasper counties experienced EF1 tornadoes. In the Sylvarena and Smith area, there were two tornadoes; and EF1 and EF0 respectively.

Copiah and Simpson counties were the hardest hit with an EF2 tornado. The city of Wesson, along with the Stronghope and Beauregard communities were the hardest hit. Wesson Attendance Center, which houses grades k-12 was in session when the school building was hit. Damage was done to the library and part of the gym and several trees came down on cars in the parking lot. School is back in session today, after being out Tuesday for repairs and safety inspections.
