Leake County to see $2M investment from processor plant

CARTHAGE- A Chicken processor plans to invest $2 million. creating 150 jobs to process chicken in Leake County. The wholesale company also has partners in Georgia.

Chicken processing is already the largest private industry in Leake County, with Tyson Foods located in Carthage and employing over 1,400 people.

Pearl River Foods will purchase the chicken, process it into breasts and tenders, and sell it to other companies.

Along with the $2 million investment from the processor, the Mississippi Development Authority will contribute $1.5 million in federal community development money to improve the building being leased for the work. The county will also provide $170,000 for infrastructure improvements.

Pearl River Foods was founded by Victory Foods of Gainesville, Georgia, as well as two new partners. However, it is not a sister company.
