Life and Death Before Highest Court

JACKSON, Miss. — A Mississippi woman on death row is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to grant her a new trial in the 1999 shooting death of her husband at their Iuka home.

Michelle Byrom says her husband, Edward abused her physically and sexually, but evidence of the abuse wasn’t brought up at her trial.  Prosecutors disagree, saying the issue was raised but rejected by the judge that sentenced her to death.

The Nation’s Highest Court will consider whether to hear her appeal, and could announce a decision shortly after its’ January 10 conference.
