DeSoto County is mourning the loss of County Coroner Jeffrey Pounders, who passed away last at his home. Pounders was 63 years and had been in his role as the county coroner for 32 years.
The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors posted the following message after learning the news of Pounders’ passing.
“Jeffrey Pounders served as the Desoto County Coroner for thirty-two years and was a tremendous colleague and friend. His love for his family, friends, and community exemplified what it meant to be a public servant and Mr. Pounders’ presence has had a lasting impact on DeSoto County. He will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to meet him.”
Reports indicate that family and friends had been unable to reach Pounders since Sunday. The exact time and cause of his death have not yet been determined.
