Mabus, Former Miss. Gov. and Navy Secretary, Expresses Sadness, Shock

WASHINGTON, D.C.–“We will come together as a family.” That’s what former Miss. Gov. Ray Mabus, now Sec. of the Navy, said in a video released by the U.S. Navy, following Monday’s shooting at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

Investigators are still trying to find out why the shootings happened.

It was unclear if any of the victims was from the Magnolia State. Several were ID’d early Tuesday by the Washington, D.C. Police Dept. No hometowns were listed, though.

Michael Arnold, 59; Sylvia Frasier, 53; Kathy Gaarde, 62; John Roger Johnson, 73;Frank Kohler, 50; Kenneth Bernard Proctor, 46; and Vishnu Pandit, 61, were five of 12 victims.
