Man found dead in front yard

JACKSON- The Jackson Police Department is investigating the 25th homicide in the capital city for 2017. 

Officers were called to a shooting Wednesday morning around 1:41 a.m. at 107 Barbara Dr. When they arrived they found 30-year-old Fred Cooper, shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead in the front yard.

Police said Cooper was inside the home with his wife and another man when an unidentified black man, the suspect, kicked in the front door and began shooting.

The victim was wounded, left the home, and fell down in the front yard due to his injuries. The other man in the home went to find a handgun and fired a single shot at the suspect.

The suspect fled in a black SUV, possibly a Chevy Tahoe.

He is described as a black male around 150-160 lbs, medium complexion, clean shaven and bald. He was last seen wearing dark colored clothing. Anyone with any information should call the police at 601-960-1234 or 601-355-TIPS.
