Man Shot, Killed by Pike County Deputy after Attempting to Run Him over with ATV

MCCOMB, Miss.- A man covered in blood was found driving an ATV while in possession of a machete, police said.

Sunday evening around 6:25 p.m. deputies received a call that an individual was on a four wheeler on McEwein Swamp Road in Ruth, just northeast of McComb with weapons.

Pike County Sheriff Mark Shepherd said the report they received said, “an individual was acting very bazaar and abnormal, was in possession of a weapon and was bloody.”

Pike County Sheriff Mark Shepherd said, once officers made contact with 36-year-old Troy Ray Boyd, Boyd attempted to run over the deputy. That’s when the deputy drew his weapon and shot at the man.

Boyd proceeded to go down the road for several hundred yards until he crashed. Shepherd said, deputies attempted to render aide to the man. Boyd was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently looking more into the case.

As standard procedure, Deputy Terry Beadle is on administrative leave while MBI investigates the incident.
