More Manpower for Highway Patrol’s Holiday Enforcement Period

JACKSON, Miss. – Extra state troopers will be on Mississippi’s roadways for the next few days.

“With the expected increase in holiday travel due to low fuel prices, all available manpower will be utilized in establishing checkpoints to prevent impaired driving and saturation patrols to combat distracted and reckless driving,” said Lt. Johnny Poulos with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.  “We are asking motorist to make responsible decisions that not only ensure safe travel, but also allows families to reach their intended destination.”

The Mississippi Highway Patrol’s 2014 Christmas Holiday Enforcement period will began at 6 p.m. Tuesday night and continue through midnight Christmas Thursday.

Last year during the Christmas Holiday Enforcement period, the Mississippi Highway Patrol investigated four traffic fatalities on state and federal highways.
